The latest major version of Optimizely CMS, version 12, was launched on September 28, 2021. The most notable update was the rewrite from .NET Framework to .NET 5.
Moving from .NET Framework to .NET 5 meant that the old admin mode had to be rewritten because the admin mode in CMS 11 was written in Web Forms, which is not supported in .NET 5.
From the beginning, the admin mode was missing a few key features that I use all the time in CMS 11.
- Tool for converting pages from one page type to another
- The report center with the link status job (they kept the link validation job)
- Mange content, the built-in tool for editing content that's not pages, blocks or files
As of May 10, 2022 the convert pages tool is finally ported to CMS 12! 🎉
I really hoped that Optimizely would extend the feature to also allow for blocks (and media) to be converted, as this has been a highly requested feature since (at least) 2014. It shouldn't be too hard, I think... 😎
